Farming without chemicals in Bellingen, NSW

I think the way that we’re farming is creating resilience. Resilience across all facets
Georgina and Sam’s story began in 2010, when a city girl met a country boy and decided to trade the familiarity of the concrete jungle for the wide open plains of the country. Moving to Moonie, a small rural town in Queensland with a population of just 180 people was a big adjustment for Georgina, but she quickly found her feet in helping Sam manage their sprawling 6000-hectare cropping operation.
Their path took a pivotal turn when they begun to explore natural, chemical-free food options as a pathway towards healing their daughters chronic skin issues. In 2017, Georgina and Sam faced the stark reality of their chemical dependency in their wheat, barley, and chickpea farming. Spending over $250,000 a year on chemicals while driving two hours to stock up on organic food began to feel increasingly contradictory. They knew it was time for a change. Determined to find a better way, they set about converting their Moonie farm to a holistic operation and sought ‘greener pastures,’ to relocate their family. That’s when they landed on the mid-north coast of NSW, on a 600-acre former dairy farm in Bellingen.
Georgina and Sam’s journey into regenerative agriculture is a heartfelt story of transformation. They openly share their experiences, dreams, and the profound impact on their family and community. Their passion for nutrient-dense, healthy food radiates through every aspect of their multi-faceted business, which now encompasses share-farming, eco-tourism, and community events centered on education and the celebration of real food, grown with love.
